Andre Austin has extensively studied the historical context and cyclical nature of American Fashion. From old Hollywood glam, the pivotal style sensibilities of the twenties to the iconic sportswear of the sixties and beyond, Andre derives daily inspiration to craft looks, define images and create new trends.
For nearly two decades, Andre’s fashion expertise has been spotlighted in the worlds of music, film and television. Most recently, Andre steered the fashion direction for the first live program on the Oprah Winfrey Network, The Gayle King Show. A highly regarded stylist and fashion expert, Andre regularly contributes to O, The Oprah Magazine, i-D, Esquire, Aventura, Neo2, Complex, Rolling Stone, Spin, Blender, Industry, Orlando Style, Florida International, WWD, MR, Blink, BookModa (prêt-a-porter), Blank City, H, Mate, AndMen, Noi se and Vanidades magazines.
In addition to his editorial work, Andre has styled a who’s who of A-List celebrities including: Jay Z, Kanye West, Nicky Hilton, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Chris Brown, Backstreet Boys, Wyclef Jean, Ryan Leslie, Mary J. Blige, Keri Hilson and Michelle Williams. The fashion genius behind the number one pop video of this decade, “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, Andre has been credited with creating the template for the modern day boy band.
Andre has also worked with photographers Terry Richardson, Annie Leibovitz, Rick Day, Sante D’Orazio, Robert Maxwell, Randall Slavin, Sheryl Nields, Pieter Henket, Norman Jean Roy, Michael Lavine, Kwaku Alston and Peter Langone.
Eager to merge style with cutting-edge technology, Andre was the on-site style expert for the Teen Vogue Haute Spot, an innovative concept store that used live demonstrations and social media to share the latest fashion and beauty trends. His continued commitment to the convergence of fashion and tech was also tapped by Google’s What to Wear (www.whattowear.com), an interactive site affiliated with Glamour Magazine that gives fashion curious consumers real-time answers to all of their style related questions.
In 2010, Andre was inspired to share his diverse experiences by joining the staff at LIM College in New York City as an Adjunct Professor
