This is a personal piece based somewhat on my experience being one of the judges for an illustration competition.
It was difficult to shake the feeling of detachment, as if I was staring behind an invisible barrier. The illustrations stared at me devoid of context, beautiful yet lacking their natural surroundings, like pieces in a natural history exhibit. It was a beautiful, yet odd, experience.
