Research New Contacts at Brands Using Search Engines.
Posted on 12th January 2010 by jason moriber

Search Engines, such as Google, are great tools to find new contacts. In less than ten minutes, with a little bit of key-word surfing, you can find new contacts at a brand you're interested in working for.

I'm going to start with the brand name. For this example I’m going to use the surf brand, O’Neill. I enter the name into the search field and review the results. Right at the top of the list,  the main website for the company is found, I’ll click on this link and see if I can find any contact information on the brand’s website. Like many brands the business contacts are not diaplayed on the commercial site. So we need to get craftier. I go back to Google and use key words in my search. I add in “wetsuits” and “marketing department.”

And now I gain two specific names of contacts that work in the marketing department, Bert and Kieran.

This link is to an old press release, but they could still be valid contacts. I click the link and find there is no contact info available. I do new searches using each of their names. I start with Bert, and find a handful of links, but one in particular that seems to display a contact phone number. I click that link and find O’Neill’s mailing address and Bert’s phone number. I cut and paste that into a notepad document and plan on calling Bert. Let’s see if I can find anything about Kieran.

Well, I find out he’s a surfer.

Which is super-cool, but doesn’t get us any contact information.

I’ll plan on calling Bert, to confirm he is still the marketing person there. And if not Bert, I’ll find out who is and ask them what type of promotional materials they’d like to receive.
