Daniel Pazos is a professional makeup artist based out of Miami, Florida. He recently shared his experience working on a personal project that was submitted to Solstice Magazine and ran in the Spring of 2019.
Daniel and the photographer Anthony Parmelee came up with the concept of the shoot together. Daniel focused on the hair and makeup while Anthony and the stylist Chloe directed the jewelry and looks. They aimed for an overall concept that featured metallics with a tribal essence. Color and texture were used in a way to coexist with the jewelry, but not to compete with or overwhelm the looks.
Daniel specializes in creating the effect of seamless, never overworked skin. He is most inspired by textures and likes to add a glass-like quality to the skin with his use of makeup. Daniel was particularly happy with the opening look in which he went for a gritty, glitter texture on the eyelids. He gradually amped up the color using blush, while keeping the lips nude and understated for most of the looks. He also told us, "It was fun to add gilded eyebrows for one of the looks."
Certain aspects of the shoot required Daniel to think on his feet. For example, he found out the day before the shoot that there would be jewelry involved. This required him to think quickly about what makeup would best suit each piece of jewelry in order to best tell the story. They pulled it off in the end.
Daniel's favorite part of this project was how easily the day flowed. The team worked seamlessly together and Daniel was able to achieve what he wanted in regards to textures and hints of color and metallics with the hair and makeup.
Daniel also told us, "I was so grateful to have booked Julianna Kimberley with Wilhelmina Miami as the model for our beauty story. She was a dream to work with and so beautiful."
