Dustin Shum received his BA (Hons) Degree in Photographic Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During his time as a photojournalist he recieved a number of awards presented by The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Press Photographers Association and Amnesty International etc. His works focus on the “political landscapes” of China and Hong Kong. In 2003, his debut solo exhibition, "Alias: Xianggang", which is supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) , was staged at the Fringe Club. “Photogenic Olympians”, another solo exhibition regarding the people and the city in Beijing Olympic 2008. His recent work “It isnae Disney!” were also featured in the Fotofest Beijing 2006 (http://fotofestbeijing.visualserver.com/) and he was selected as one of the 34 most interesting photographers by the festival reviewers. Some of the works from the series are collected by San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and private collectors.
The series is also published as a photography monograph entitled "Themeless Parks". Recent years he works are selected in many joint exhibition including "Imaging Hong Kong", a contemporary photography exhibition in Hong Kong, “City Flâneur: Social Documentary Photography” at Hong Kong Heritage Museum, “Photography Now: China, Japan, Korea” at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Hong Kong Art Biennial at Hong Kong Art Museum and Pingyao International Photography Festival in 2008. His “It isnae Disney!” series is Featured in “Naturae” exhibition currently showing in Savignano Immagini Festival in Savignano, Italy.
