ARTIST AND BRAND: She’s tall, thin, and beautiful with waist-length platinum-blond hair and ruby red lips. She’s 23, lives in LA and idolizes Paris Hilton. This could be just about any girl in Hollywood, right? Not Elena Gallen. After receiving a degree in Media Studies from Blaquerna University, she recently moved from Barcelona, Spain to the States to study film. A phenomenally talented freehand illustrator and painter, she likes David Lynch movies, vintage toys, post-modernism, monsters, skateboards, surrealism, unicorns and vampires. However, what really sets this beauty apart is her amazing line of limited edition T-shirts that quickly garnered a cult-following among the fashion elite. Everyone from Fashion Designer Giles Deacon, to Rock Singer Wendy James (Racine) has been spotted in one of her pop-culture amalgam designs.

“I thought of using tee shirt design as a platform to reach the general public with my creations and help them not take them so seriously,” says Gallen, “Plus, it’s a pleasure to have your work not only recognized, but actually worn by people. There’s a step between liking something and making it part of oneself. I think t-shirts are able to eliminate that step.”

The unfussy white tees are emblazoned with surprising images such as, double-headed Bambis, tattooed octopus ladies, bearded Snow Whites, Paris Hilton’s famous Chihuahua, Tinkerbell, and most famously, a bloody-nosed Kate Moss. “Kate Moss is an illustration about a teenage idol” she explains about her best-selling tee, “I denounce and praise this addict model who’s a role model for millions of boys and girls nowadays. It’s an ephemeral and temporal illustration, and the actual impact it creates will be irrelevant in a time. That’s its strength, it defines this era perfectly. It defines the fleetingness of fame.”- source: Tribal Runway.
