Winter Solider | Chris Hauff, 23, was a specialist in the army and an Iraq war vet who is now speaking out against the war. "The war is pointless. We shouldn't be over there. There are too many that have died for somebody else's gain," he said.
Behind the curtain | Nico Handley holds the curtain for Kiara Rice as she looks to the stage before a dress rehearsal begins at the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center at Rainer Beach High School. The production was led by Broadway Bound, a childrens theater group based in Seattle's more affluent north end. Broadway Bound had six weeks to prepare two-dozen high-school students, many of whom have never acted or sung on stage, to put on a high-quality, full version of Dreamgirls.

Dead forest | Mayor of Daisetta, TX Lynn Wells poses next to dead trees on his property in Daisetta, TX. After a sinkhole formed on the property of Deloach Oil & Gas Waste Disposal System in May, 2008, water came up through a retired well on Wells' property, inundating it with water. A day later, he said the trees on his property showed signs of dying. A year later, many are now dead.
FEMA trailer | Yvonne VanZandt stands next to her trailer in High Island, TX. FEMA is forcing her out of her trailer before the trailer program ends March 12. She is one of many residents who complain about FEMA pressure to move out before the program ends. FEMA is ending its temporary housting program for hurricane Ike victims even though it extended the program in Louisiana for four years. FEMA is selling trailers to Ike victims for prices ranging from $3,400 to $16,000, but in Louisiana they were sold for under $100.
Funeral | The casket of Cpl. Joshua Alexander Molina, 20, who passed away on March 27, 2008 while honorably serving his country in Iraq is transfered from St. Matthews Episcopal Church to Houston National Cemetery.
Lifeguard | Exchange student Ewelina Berdysz, 24, works as a lifeguard at Pickerell Park pool in Schertz. Berdysz is from Znin, Poland. The city has hired a number of exchange students this summer as lifeguards.
Two gun lesson | Jesse Sellers shows his son William how to hold a pair of .22 revolvers during target practice in a forest near Chauncey, OH. Sellers said he used to work as a construction worker, but that after 15 years, his body can't take it anymore and will become a stay-at-home Dad. Sellers also has three other children, two of whom are deaf twin girls.
