One fine day, Gonçalo met Illustration and it was love at first sight.
Like any other love story, there did appear some complications and obstacles to overcome before the two lovers could be happily wedded. You see, Gonçalo had a prior engagement with Illustration's older and quite respectable sibling, Architecture.
Happily working as an architect in London, he would stare out the window and dream of long strolls along editorial pages. Now, it's not that Architecture was without its charms, filled as it was with alluring buildings and complicated technical drawings. However, once he met voluptuous Illustration, his days became filled with visions of generous and colorful shapes.
Well, to make a long story short, after some conundrums the two did get together and, several years past, are still growing strong. Not only that, you'll be happy to know that Architecture did find a way to keep in touch, inspiring Gonçalo's designs with its geometry and strong conceptual approach.
Gonçalo has since then collaborated with several magazines and newspapers around the world. When not doing editorial work he also likes to illustrate children's books and create pattern designs.
In 2004 he received an Award of Excellence from the Society for News Design (SND) and in 2008 he was awarded the Stuart Grand Prize for the best Portuguese Press Illustration & Cartoon.
